…but it pours!   And boy has it poured this winter!

Basking in the beautiful sunshine this week which has St. Annes looking at its best it is hard to remember the wind and rain that has battered the Fylde coast and Merlewood Holiday apartments over the winter. Snug inside Merlewood we thought we were impervious but, like so many people we talk to, the weather this winter has exposed problems none of us knew we had.

Back in January we began the planned refurbishment of our ground floor Porritt apartment. We had been planning for nearly a year and had all the tradesmen booked, all the fixtures and fittings purchased and were all ready for a simple project. Unfortunately our 115 year old house had other ideas. They say pride comes before a fall and when we came to strip off the wallpaper in the lounge we were shocked to find that we had an unexpected ‘indoor water feature’.

We are fortunate in our location on a corner to be one of the only houses in our block to have a sea view. Unfortunately this view has come at a cost: that of being more exposed to the elements. Our property has literally been sandblasted to a point where mortar and stonework had eroded, resulting in our problems. So up went the scaffolding and a wonderful builder has managed to stop the ingress of water. This meant the refurbishment had to go on hold for a number of weeks whilst we made sure that the problem was resolved and allowed the plaster time to dry out.

But I am delighted to announce that work has now finished. All the new furniture and fittings are in place and we are ready for business. We are absolutely delighted with the finished product and we hope that you are too.
